About Ryan

Ryan Bryce Johnson, tenor, is a dynamic and versatile performer with a rich background in opera and music theatre. Most recently, he made his debut as Lt. Joseph Cable in Dayton Opera's South Pacific and performed at The Santa Fe Opera as Giuseppe in Verdi's La Traviata and as Faninal's Major-Domo in Richard Strauss' Der Rosenkavalier. In 2025, he returns to The Santa Fe Opera to perform Borsa in Verdi’s Rigoletto and will also appear with The Santa Fe Symphony Orchestra in a fall performance of Handel’s Messiah. In 2023, he debuted at The Glimmerglass Festival, portraying the Grand Inquisitor and Governor in Bernstein’s Candide.

Ryan has enjoyed success in various singing competitions, including winning First Prize in the 2023 Lotte Lenya Competition. He has also been a finalist for the George London Foundation Competition and a district winner of The Metropolitan Opera Eric and Dominique Laffont Competition.

​Handel's Messiah 

Ryan will be joinging The Santa Fe Symphony Orchestra as the tenor soloist in Handel's Messiah. 

Rigoletto

Returning to Santa Fe opera as a 2025 Apprentice Artist, Ryan will be singing the role of Borsa in Verdi's masterpiece Rigoletto. 

Apprentice Scenes and Concert

Ryan will be singing selections from Stravinsky's The Rake's Progress and Bernstein's Candide in The Santa Fe Opera apprentice concerts.
